Background
2000: Launch of the Foundation
The Carrefour Group’s support for humanitarian causes was strengthened with the launch of the Carrefour Foundation in 2000.
The Foundation aims to work within various fields in the general interest, particularly in the areas of solidarity, emergency aid, culture, education, the fight against exclusion, medical research, the environment and poverty.
July 2001: Third private corporate foundation to establish official relations with UNESCO.
May 2003: Consultative status within the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
March 2004: Appointed as one of 18 members of France’s Consultative Council for Emergency Humanitarian Action, on which only two corporate representatives currently sit.
October 2005: A change of emphasis …
The Board of Directors redefined the strategy of the Carrefour International Foundation in order to increase the effectiveness of its initiatives on the ground. The Foundation therefore supports actions that are in line with the Group’s areas of expertise and the skills of its partners, and only where the Carrefour Group has a presence.
December 2009: Realigning its missions…
Following decisions taken at the last Board meeting, the Carrefour International Foundation is focusing its actions on three central missions:
- Food programme: providing the vulnerable with access to safe and varied foodstuffs.
- Professional integration: helping to improve the employment prospects of those suffering from exclusion.
- Solidarity: contributing to humanitarian aid or supporting those in greatest need after a disaster or emergency, with donations of the right products.
