Brazil : Reducing illiteracy

Carrefour Brazil is partner of the NGO ALFABETIZAÇAO SOLIDARIA since 2005. This partnership has already helped more than 1525 pupils in the municipalities of Paraiba and Cearà.
The Carrefour International Foundation joins this partnership by providing a grant of € 360,000 (over 3 years, from 2008 to 2010) to allow the development of the program in 4 new common states of Paraiba. These centers will be able to accommodate 1230 students and 50 local trainers.
Results 2009
The project supported by the Foundation in 2009 helped 996 students and 58 teachers, who are trained to teach.
Overall, students were welcomed into one of 51 classes, spread across 6 cities in 5 different states.
