France : Fondation de la 2e Chance: a "helping hand" to get back into the job market
The Fondation de la 2e Chance is a national network offering a real helping hand to people in need. It gives them job-related, social and human "sponsorship" for periods of between 6 and 24 months.
Over 10 years, the Fondation de la 2e Chance has grown to 63 agencies across France (7 of which opened in 2007), staffed by 2,000 volunteers. Projects have included 402 training courses and 185 company start-ups / revivals.
Also, thanks to financial backing from its partners (including the Carrefour International Foundation since 2002), a mentoring system has been introduced to provide legal and tax advice, and additional micro-credit and micro-insurance.
The Caen agency is very active in this context and has formed a number of useful partnerships with local social structures. This agency is one of the very first to have been supervised since its inception by the Carrefour International Foundation. Ten volunteers from the Carrefour workforce act as personal mentors to the beneficiaries and run the structure in Caen.
Given this positive result, the Carrefour International Foundation has decided to continue its support in 2008.
