The Carrefour International Foundation gives financial assistance to ISCO in its efforts to see children through their entire schooling process, from nursery school to high school, by providing them with the financial resources they need to enrol in school and buy educational materials.
ISCO also distributes daily meals and gives health checks. It has opened a new school in a shanty town close to a local Carrefour store.
It works in close liaison with the families of the children it assists.
To promote the visibility of the work of ISCO, the Carrefour stores in Indonesia communicate on the association’s work. The stores also provide their customers with information on the partnership and on enterprise action.
The association’s actions have developed enormously since its beginnings in 1999. ISCO began in 2002 by accompanying 50 children in two sectors in Jakarta and now in 2010, supports 1 500 children in 18 sectors – 11 in Jakarta, 5 in Surabaya and 2 in Medan. 480 of the children, aged 5 to 15 years old, benefit from social, financial and material support from the Carrefour Foundation and can also follow their school education normally. Carrefour Indonesia also provides food daily to the children.
