Action involving welfare grocery stores
Carrefour Greece delivers a positive review of its action involving PACTE welfare grocery stores
Nearly ten months after the inauguration in December 2007 of the first welfare grocery store in Athens, 400 families have received help. As well as food aid, beneficiaries have found psychological and social support there, as testified by the store manager, Panos Lentaris:
"From the day we opened the welfare grocery, the response of the Athenians has been substantial and warm! Everyone, individual citizens, social bodies, local authority management and particularly the needy families for whom this program is run, have only good things to say about this innovation and we daily receive thanks from them. The best satisfaction for all of us who work at the welfare grocery is to see the joy of these people, and also the hope of better times to come that is dawning among them!"
This project was developed in collaboration with the management of Carrefour Marinopoulos, which participates by sharing its expertise in the day-to-day running of grocery stories with the welfare grocery.
Given this first successful experience, a second welfare grocery will be opening its doors in October 2008 in Piraeus, then a third in Thessalonica before the end of the year, which will then mean that PACTE stores cover an area inhabited by 60% of the Greek population.
