Carrefour Italy partners Mediafriends Onlus’ "La Fabbrica del Sorriso" (Smile Factory) project 

Children are our future. Childhood is a right. School, medical care and a family must not be an inaccessible dream. All reasons why "La Fabbrica del Sorriso" took place in May in Carrefour and GS stores in Italy. Customers were able to buy a donor card - the Donocard - for €5. In this way they were able to play an active part in the fund-collection activity sponsored by the Smile Factory. As always, the initiative was supported by a televised marathon broadcast on all Mediaset channels. GS customers could also support the initiative by electing to change 400 of the points accumulated on their SpesAmica Club loyalty card into a donation. The 2008 event was devoted particularly to abandoned children in Italy and throughout the world.

The organisations that benefited from the funds collected were:

1. Associazione CAMMINANDO Don Orione for two projects in Italy  
2. A.I.S.P.O - Associazione Italiana per la Solidarietà tra i Popoli for a hospital-boat project
3. UNICEF’s project to provide schooling and protection for street children in Bangladesh 
4. VIDES - Volontariato Internazionale Donna Educazione Sviluppo for their project to provide a primary school for Mokambo
