Carrefour Romania began remodelling Billa stores
On March 1, Carrefour opened the Market Liberty Mall, the first Billa store remodelled and reopened under the Market brand since the acquisition of the 86 Billa stores in Romania on June 29, 2016. The move has made Carrefour the largest supermarket operator in Romania in terms of geographical presence, and has also strengthened its multiformat offer and brought it closer to customers. During a press conference on March 14, Carrefour presented the new supermarket concept based on four main axes: lower prices on hundreds of products; a wider range of both food and non-food products; improved layout and in-store experience; and new services for customers and employees.
On December 22, 2015, Carrefour announced it had signed an acquisition agreement with Rewe Group for the company Billa Romania.
In a second stage, on June 29, 2016, the Competition Council approved the acquisition of the 86 Billa stores. Thanks to this acquisition, Carrefour has become the largest supermarket operator in Romania in terms of geographical presence, and has strengthened its multiformat offer and brought it closer to customers.
The new supermarket model is based on 4 main axes:
1. Lower prices on hundreds of products
The new Market will offer lower prices on hundreds of products. For additional discounts, customers are invited to find the "Cheaper with Market" labels on the shelves.
2. Thousands of new food and non-food products added
The Market Liberty Mall includes 3,560 new products labelled "New", of which over 2,460 are food products: fresh, chilled, breakfast products, snacks, groceries, as well as over 1,100 non-food products: textile, household goods, seasonal items, electronics and small appliances, cosmetics, detergents and home maintenance products.
3. Improved layout and in-store ambience
The new supermarket concept offers customers a streamlined and comfortable shopping path, easy access to all categories, higher product visibility and a modern feel.
