Firstly, Carrefour is a resolutely European group–it is the number one retailer in Europe with a presence in ten EU countries, adapting its products and services to local lifestyles everywhere it operates. Secondly, Carrefour is a keen supporter of sport, sporting values and sporting events. In the various countries in which we do business, we support teams, sportsmen and -women, and sport-related initiatives in society. In France, Greece and Romania, Carrefour backs football at national level. In Spain, Carrefour supports the national basketball team. In Poland, we are a sponsor of the Warsaw Marathon. And last but not least, our supermarkets have supported the Tour de France and the polka-dot jersey for the best climber since 1993. All these sports set great store by solidarity, sharing, respect and progress. These are the same values that guide our Group’s operations on a daily basis. Supporting Europe and sport therefore comes naturally to our Group.
