Within the framework of a capital increase, the Carrefour Group has acquired a 10% holding in meubles.com (meubles.com), Europe's biggest online furniture site.
Created in September 2000 by Michel Carite and Alain Touret, meubles.com is a site where visitors can purchase furniture and find information on how to decorate or redecorate a room or an entire house.

They can also search for specific pieces of furniture or browse for antiques or unique items online. Meubles.com offers over 20,000 references representing all styles, which on average are 30% cheaper than in traditional circuits, thanks to its specific organization without stores, stocks, nor intermediaries. Meubles.com has developed a broad range of services for consumers:
- a presentation of the different types of objects and furniture available by category (ex: beds), or style (ex: modern) to equip your interior,
- a personalized search which allows you to select different items by fabric, size, or price and if a piece cannot be found on the site, case by case processing is available, an interactive tool which makes it possible to recreate your own interior (room, living room, kitchen, etc.) based on their real dimensions and to place the pieces of furniture in it,
- a team of advisors and experts in the furniture world that can be reached at a toll-free number, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (0800638253).

For Carrefour, the objective is to propose a complementary offering and a complete range of services accessible by the Internet. Furthermore, Carrefour intends to establish close links between this sites and its stores, for example by setting up terminals or e-corners. This industrial agreement will allow meubles.com to accelerate its European development, notably in Spain and Italy, planned for 2001.

Michel Carite, 51, (MBA Warton), was Chairman of Levitan (79-89) then of the Dumeste Group, a leading chair manufacturer (89-91). Alain Touret, 50, was Chairman of Darnal (for 25 years) and of Pier Import.
